  • The method used on each patient at our Brisbane clinic will depend on their body type and goals.  Dr Ian Chinsee may use one of the following methods:

    Trim Method
    This procedure removes tissue by trimming the edges of the labia minora.

    Wedge method
    This removes a V-shape wedge of tissue from the labia minora.

  • Dr Chinsee may recommend combining labiaplasty with other procedures for better outcomes.

LABIAPLASTY CONSULT


A consultation for labiaplasty is a crucial step in the preparation process. It offers the chance to meet with Dr. Ian Chinsee and his surgical team, gather detailed information about the procedure, and discuss any potential risks and complications. During the consultation, you'll have the opportunity to outline your goals and gain a clear understanding of what results are achievable based on your unique situation.

Before your first consultations , you will be required to obtain a referral from their GP, complete a body dysmorphic disorder screening questionnaire. Prior to booking a surgical date you must attend at least two pre-operative consultations.

  • Upon arrival, a receptionist will assist you with the necessary forms before your consultation with Dr. Chinsee.

    During your initial consultation, Dr. Chinsee will review your medical history and discuss your aesthetic goals. He will provide detailed information about labiaplasty, including surgical techniques, recovery times, and potential risks and complications.

    Dr. Chinsee will then collaborate with you to create a personalised surgical plan tailored to your specific objectives.

  • Your second consultation can be scheduled at least seven days after your initial visit. During this follow-up meeting, Dr. Chinsee will review your detailed surgical plan, provide information on pre- and post-operative procedures, and address any questions related to your consent forms. It’s also an opportunity to ask any additional questions you may have.

    Following the second consultation, there is a mandatory one-week cooling-off period before you can schedule your surgery or make any payments. Surgery can only be booked once you have completed your second consultation and signed the consent forms.

Recovery varies from patient to patient. Patients can experience some pain, aches, pressure, itchiness, swelling and discomfort, generally lasting up to two weeks. We prescribe oral pain medication after your procedure to assist with pain and discomfort.

Following the operation, patients will require a dressing change at one week intervals for a period of two weeks, some patients will require additional dressing changes depending on their healing process. Out of Town Patients will be provided with a letter containing detailed dressing change instructions to give to their GP if they cannot attend dressing change appointments at the Brisbane clinic.

Most patients should expect to take around one week off work. Patients can usually return to their normal activities, including gym exercises from week six, once you have had approval from Dr chINSEE.

There may be swelling and bruising after the procedure. Major swelling usually subsides by three months, and the final results are noticeable between six months and one year.

We will schedule post-operative appointments throughout the following year. These appointments can be conducted virtually or in person at our rooms in Brisbane.

FAQs

  • Scar location is dependent on the technique used and the areas addressed during surgery.  Due to the qualities of vulval skin, scarring is usually not very noticeable and generally will fade over time.

  • The risks and complications of Labiaplasty surgery may include:

    • Bleeding

    • Changes in intimate sensation

    • Delayed wound healing

    • Infection

    • Severe pain, bruising or swelling

    • Asymmetry

    • Unfavourable scarring


  • The results of the surgery may last for several years. You may notice some reduction in physical discomfort after your surgery. You will also notice a change in the appearance of your labia.

    It is important to keep in mind that the surgery cannot stop the effects of ageing. To maintain your results, you may need additional surgery in the future.

  • For optimal outcomes, avoid strenuous activities and sexual intercourse for six weeks and avoid long showers. After bathing, gently pat dry the wound with a clean towel. To minimise the risk of irritation, wear loose, comfortable clothes.
